STORY

Sons of Sicily was founded as a business in 2024, but its roots trace back to the early 1970s in the mind of a child, Alessio Bacchi, born in Nuremberg, Germany, to Sicilian parents from Sciacca, a town in the province of Agrigento. Despite—or perhaps because of—a prohibition imposed by a father who, paradoxically, was deeply in love with his homeland, its roots, air, food, and traditions, but also determined not to let his kids speak the languages (Sicilian and Italian) of the place from which he emigrated in 1962, a strong attachment to this fantastic island was born. This is certainly not a unique story; it happened in many families of emigrants around the world.

This child dreamed of one day living in the place where his parents had been happy but had to leave for various reasons. He dreamed not just of living there, but of contributing to a future where no one would have to leave the island out of necessity, but only by choice. As he grew, learned, studied, traveled, and worked in different fields, gathering countless impressions, ideas, and skills, it was inevitable that something would emerge to add value to this Mediterranean gem.

Sons of Sicily aims to be a platform, a showcase not only for Sicily and its people—both locals and those living away—but for everyone who appreciates and wants to share the unique characteristics of this place. It seeks to contribute to the understanding of migration stories that affect all cultures, not just the Sicilian one. We are all the result of not only where we come from but also of those who came before us.

Now, this child has grown up, is aging, and is becoming the main protagonist of this dream. Join me on this journey as it unfolds.

MESSAGE

The message that Sons of Sicily wants to convey emphasizes the importance of having solid roots in traditions, education, and culture, while also maintaining an open mindset that allows for adaptation, exchange, and freedom. While preserving one’s identity and origins, the goal is to promote Sicily in an inclusive, non-competitive way, avoiding comparisons with other places. The value of Sicily’s cultural diversity stems from centuries of history, shaped by conquest and migration.

The message highlights the need to remember where we come from—whether it’s our parents, grandparents, or ancestors—and to share these connections with others in order to educate, mediate, and coexist without superiority or the desire to convert others. “Sons of” does not refer to masculinity, but signifies that each of us carries within us a unique and shared history. Cultural diversity, therefore, becomes a resource for exchanging ideas and projects between different cultures, while always respecting one’s own identity.

No culture is superior to another, and what exists today is the result of a continuous intertwining of experiences, eras, and historical conditions. Sons of Sicily aims to sit at the table with others—a “schiticchiu,” as we say in our region—and share the excellences of each culture with everyone. The project also seeks to contribute to economic, social, and territorial development, always with an innovative, open-minded, and out-of-the-box vision. „Amunì“, let´s go!
